NASA and the Russians

NASA typically does a lot of FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) to plan for all possible scenarios that will result in any form of failure during take off and in voyage. Typical after action will be engaging all the Triz and Six Sigma experts to provide solutions to the problems. It was said that 1 million dollars was spent just to hired Six Sigma experts and specialist to brainstorm on the methods to make writing with a pen possible in outer space. On the contrary, the Russians spend less than a dollar to come out with the solution...they use pencil....

  1. Oh my gosh. FMEA... that's like my job scope... hate convincing the europeans on the results.

  3. Technical on my side. We carry out FMEA. We don't come up with the FMEA documentation. Maybe for the guys who come up with it, have to delve through a lot of paperwork.

But after awhile, you know what to expect when you fail one item.
